Editorial evidence

Keep Evidence Behind a Recommendation

A claim should remain connected with its source.

A useful distinction

A feature claim can come from manufacturer documentation, a defined test or another identified source. These are different forms of evidence. A recommendation becomes harder to assess when every statement is presented as the publisher’s own verified experience.

Put it into practice

Create a claim-and-source note with model, document version and test scope where applicable. Mark interpretation separately. Check the record when editing the recommendation so a changed product or obsolete document does not silently inherit the previous version’s claims.
